Belinda (Be) Bonham began working in mainstream journalism in 1985 as a cadet with Fairfax Newspapers. By 1990, she was a senior journalist, feature writer and night chief of staff at Australia's then largest selling newspaper, The Sunday Telegraph. She covered and/or coordinated coverage of major stories ranging from Royal and US Presidential tours to the Strathfield Massacre.
Before joining The University of Sydney, Be had worked as a journalist and subeditor in newsrooms for Fairfax Newspapers, News Limited, Rural Press, Pacific Magazines and Consolidated Press. She had also worked in business-to-business press, coordinating small-staff newsrooms at Reed Business Publishing (The Veterinarian) and APN Education Media (Nursing Review). As public affairs coordinator with Central Sydney Area Health Service, she ran a 'communications room' of four writers.
In her current role, she plans and executes communication campaigns that target a variety of audiences and stakeholders associated with the Sydney School of Education and Social Work. This can range from maintaining, designing the architecture, and writing the content for the SSESW portal for current coursework students, to editing and writing the content, and posting videos for the internet sites of particular research groups and centres, including the Sydney Institute for Community Languages Education; the Institute of Open Adoption Studies; and the Indigenous Research Collaboration. She is also involved in organising and promoting the annual scholarships-and-prizes night for the school.
