Between 2002 and January 2022, Lucy Lu held various leadership roles in NSW Department of Education, the latest as Director, Education Measurement and Statistics, for eight years.
In these roles, Lucy was responsible for managing all annual statistical collections, and submitting of census data to meet the funding, legislative and reporting requirements of the federal and state governments, as well as managing data-policy development and implementation; providing statistical and psychometric advice to support policy analysis and executive decision-making; and leading research to improve the efficiency and equity of education delivery and resourcing. Since February 2022, Lucy has been working as the Senior Manager, Analytics and Strategic Projects, with the Australian Education Research Organisation.
Lucy contributes to Sydney School of Education and Social Work's Centre for Educational Measurement and Assessment as a co-supervisor of Higher Degree Research students and by lecturing in the postgraduate unit of study "Data Literacy for School Teachers", which is offered under various Master of Education designations.
