Pam Joseph has a broad knowledge of, and extensive practice experience in, social work and nursing to her role with Sydney School of Education and Social Work. Her work is informed by complexity theory and community-development approaches.
Pam has taught a range of units of study in the undergraduate (BSW) and postgraduate (MSWQ) social work courses. In addition to Field Education units in both courses, she has coordinated units on Human Development, Ageing, Health Inequalities, Social Policy and Social Work, and the capstone units for both BSW and MSWQ. Pam was the Student Life Advisor for social work students in 2021/22.
Pam's research includes a focus on community-led disaster resilience and the impacts of climate change, with current projects in NSW and Victoria. She also explores the intersection of health and disability, and is particularly interested in processes of transition. Her previous social work practice roles included:
- policy advice and agency liaison in the Victorian government public service
- program management of a multidisciplinary team in a service for people under 25 years of age who were pregnant or parenting
- working with a community-led genetic support group to design and implement a new advocacy-based social work position.
Pam's PhD thesis explored parent carers' perspectives on their relationships with complex service systems.
